🚀 How a Newsletter will change your Design Career · The Bunker
Hi friend 👋🏻!
Welcome to a Premium-Only post for the premium members of The Bunker.
A Newsletter in which we talk about UX Design and the Freelance Journey, dedicated to those who are starting out in both worlds and who feel identified.
From The Bunker, we accompany you on the way.
Hi friend!
I wanted to start the post by welcoming the new premium subscribers of The Bunker.
We recently launched the premium program, and we have already raised almost $70 this month.
So thank you very much, and welcome to everyone!
Let's get to it!
The other day, I tweeted announcing what last week's post was, which means that every week when I upload a post to this newsletter, I also share it on Twitter.
Apparently, this week's post turned out to be very popular, and the topic seemed interesting.
As a result of this post, some people reached out to me privately, others sent me emails, and they were asking me questions about the world of newsletters.
They asked me if it was profitable, how much effort it took to create these posts, and more.
I simply found it to be an interesting topic to discuss, so let's dive into it.
The first thing I want to make clear is that I am in favor of newsletters. I will tell you directly that it is the best decision you can make as content creators or people who want to build audiences, promote their services or products, etc.
And it can truly change your life.
It has changed my life.
I have grown my community.
I have gained more clients.
I have better distributed my products.
It has helped me become a better writer.
It has helped me communicate more effectively.
I have learned the power of SEO and keywords.
I have learned how to position my content.
Because creating a newsletter is very profitable, for these two simple reasons:
The relationship between the effort and the benefit it provides is enormous.
In other words, it gives you a lot of value and benefit in relation to the "little" effort it requires.
What value does a newsletter provide?
You gain an email.
An email is infinitely more valuable than a follow from anyone.
That person is giving you access and authorization to send them things. Therefore, you already have their attention.
On Twitter, Instagram, and other social media platforms, you have to compete against the infinite scroll to earn the users' attention.
In this way, you already have the user's attention because it is the user who actively decides to receive your content by registering their email.
So, in the future, when you have to promote a product, make a big announcement, launch a project, or anything else, it will be much easier to reach people because you already have access to them in some way.
You don't have to fight against any algorithm. You don't depend on luck being on your side.
The important thing to understand here is: While it is true that you may create a non-profit newsletter, the thing is, if in the future you want to do anything or simply make an announcement, all the emails you have are not from random people, but from potential clients, collaborators, partners, investors... who already know you because they have actively decided that you can send them content.
Therefore, the probability that they will find your post and interact with it is infinitely higher than if they come across it on Twitter. (You can see how things are going).
Another very important aspect is that you don't depend on the platform doing well.
You have 200k followers on YouTube → YouTube shuts down → You lose everything.
While it is true that you have your audience spread out and that YouTube's audience probably follows you on Twitter, you get the idea.
With email, you have the peace of mind that you don't care about social media, you already have people's email, and that's all you need.
You will gain trust from your clients.
Clients come to you to find answers to their problems.
We know that in order for a client to choose to work with you, you have to convey trust to them.
To convey trust, you can showcase your work in your portfolio, and also share more specific, specialized content and as an extra for each project, share everything you know.
When you share a behind-the-scenes or a case study, you not only show the final design but also share your creative process.
And this builds trust with the client because they can see how much you know. If you know more, you will inspire more confidence.
Remember that clients are looking for maximum benefit with minimal uncertainty.
And finally, and in my opinion, the coolest thing is that you create a slightly more special community.
In the end, I don't speak in this newsletter the same way I do on YouTube, Twitter, or Instagram.
This is much more personal.
On other social media platforms, you may have the perception that I am creating content for many people at once, but what we do here is purely created for you.
In this case, for the group of premium subscribers.
Something more exclusive, something more specific. Something more special.
In conclusion: You only need to upload 1 post per week for 2 years to have a successful project.
This post doesn't have to be the most detailed and specific.
Talk about something you're an expert in.
Share your thoughts.
Explain your capabilities to people.
Document your journey.
Until next time,
Cheers, Jordi Espinosa.
