🔆 Design isn't perfect (and that's okay) · The Bunker #120
There is an obsession with perfection before starting.
We want to launch the perfect product, have the perfect portfolio, or sell the perfect template.
But the reality is that no one gets it right on the first try.
And the best part is that it's not necessary.
What truly makes the difference between someone who moves forward and someone who gets stuck is the speed at which they test and iterate.
It's normal to feel frustrated when a design or product doesn't have the expected impact on its first version.
But what matters is not how many times you fail, but how much you learn and how much you improve with each attempt.
Iteration is not optional, it's a necessity.
🔄 How to improve any product (without reinventing the wheel)
I've always been fascinated by how the best companies and designers don't necessarily create 100% new things.
Instead, they constantly improve what they already have.
Look at any great digital product, and you'll notice something in common:
-
Figma constantly releases improvements to its design system.
-
Webflow tweaks and polishes small interactions every month.
-
Apple doesn't reinvent the iPhone every year.
They simply make it a little better.
The same applies to us as digital product creators.
You don’t need to have the perfect version before launching.
You just need to start and adjust along the way.
💡 Apply this to your work
If you work in design, development, or create digital products, this principle will change your life.
Some ways to apply it:
- Designers: Don't wait for your portfolio to be "perfect" before launching it.
Publish now and adjust it every week.
- UX/UI product designers: Look at references, test versions, share them with your PM, and refine them.
A good design is born from many iterations.
- Freelancers: Test different ways of presenting your pricing until you find the one that converts best.
Make pricing public, private, with an interactive calculator...
- Product creators: You don’t need 100 components in your UI Kit for it to be useful.
With 20 well-made ones, you can already sell.
You just need to release something viable and subject it to frequent iteration.
Now, if you're not getting good results, ask yourself:
How many times do you try?
How many times do you refine it?
How much time do you spend analyzing examples before designing?
If you do none of this and jump straight into design without a refinement process, it's normal for it to go wrong.
At Goin, before launching a product, we refine and rethink it many times.
It's not just about doing for the sake of doing, but about improving each version until it's solid.
That is the difference between a mediocre design and a well-executed design.
Constant iteration also reduces uncertainty.
If you test something and it doesn’t work, you already have real data on what to adjust in the next version.
On the other hand, if you wait too long and then discover that it wasn't what the user needed, you will have wasted valuable time and energy.
With Koala UI, this is exactly what we do.
We don't aim for perfection, we aim for continuous improvement.
Our Design System didn’t start as a massive product with hundreds of components.
We launched it with the essentials, and over time, we have refined it into a solid system used by thousands of designers.
The key has always been the same: iterate, listen to feedback, and adjust.
✅ Conclusion: better done than perfect
If there's one thing I want you to take from this email, it's this: Launch, learn, and improve.
Stop waiting for everything to be flawless before taking action.
The key to success in any digital product, template, or business is to do, measure, and adjust.
Don’t be afraid to show something "half-done," because what matters is how it evolves.
If you want a design system that helps you iterate faster without worrying about every little detail from scratch, check out Koala UI.
It gives you a solid foundation so you can focus on what matters: testing, adjusting, and growing your project.
Until next time,
Jordi Espinosa.
